Official Kissing Day Blogfest, In Honor of Mistletoe

I know some of you who are reading this are going to be disappointed. There really isn’t an official day set aside just for kissing. Well, actually in the UK, July 6 is National Kissing Day, but that is not what this post is about. This post is for all you writers out there who have written a kissing scene.
The idea started when Katie tweeted about her giddy-ness at writing a kissing scene in her current WIP. Several tweeters, @nataliebahm, @kristaphillips, and @_MarybethSmith_, all chimed in with their take on writing kissing scenes.
I thought to myself, why don’t we all post a kissing scene from our current WIP? All on the same day? We can hop around to all our friend’s blogs and read about some sigh-producing, high-giddy-factor kisses. Who wouldn’t love that? So here we go……
Official Kissing Day Blogfest
Monday, December 21st
A Writer’s Tribute to Mistletoe
Here is what to do if you want to participate in the Official Kissing Day Blogfest:
  1. Write a post telling about the Official Kissing Day Blogfest. This way more writer/bloggers will get the word and be able to participate on Monday, Dec. 21st.
  2. Tweet about it, using the hash tag: #kissingdayblogfest (I don’t know if this will help get the word out, but I thought it might be fun to try.)
  3. On Monday, December 21st, post on your blog an excerpt from your current WIP, or write a new scene that spotlights a kiss or an “almost kiss”.
  4. If you are not a writer, or are uncomfortable sharing your work online, post your favorite kissing scene or almost-kissing scene from any book or movie.

**Please note that you do NOT have to do #1 or #2 to participate. I was trying to think of a way to get more writers to join in on the fun, but it is NOT mandatory! Just post your kissing scene on Monday for our reading pleasure!

Go HERE to post a link to your blog so everyone can find your blog and read your sigh-inducing kissing scene!

What do you think of our idea? Wanna participate?

Question of the day: What is your favorite word for kiss?

Mine is snogging (found in Harry Potter). Yes, it sounds a bit messy…and I do not use it in my writing…but what a fun word!

  1. I just chimed in on Katie's post that two of my characters seem to have the eye for one another. I'm sure they would appreciate a kissing scene. All this tension is killing them!

    I'm in!

  2. HA! Did we tweet about the mistletoe thing, because my post mentions honoring mistletoe too! Either we already tweeted about that, or our minds think alike.

I also added something on my blog. I thought people who don't write or people who don't like sharing their writing could post their favorite kissing scene from a movie or book. That way they can participate if they want!

What a fun idea, Sherrinda. Love the hashtag on Twitter. 🙂

    Favorite word for kissing?

Oh, wow. I guess I didn't realize there were a lot of other words for it! I can think of some FUNNY ones, “Locking Lips” “Tonsil hockey (HA)” and what not. Um, but favorite word.

Oh, smooch! I like that word:-)

  5. I am so with you on the Snogging. There is no better word for kissing than snogging. It should totally be called the Snogging Fest! I may rename it on my blog, it's up in the air.

  8. Making out! Sorry, but in my day, that didn't mean anything heavy heavy but just an intense kiss or two.

Yeah, I'm old, old enough to remember going to an Aggie (Texas A&M) football game when the tradition of kissing your gal once for every Aggie point scored was kinda novel.

    Mistletoe, however? Old as…the hills!

    Blessings on a great post!
Didn't disappoint this old lady a bit!!

  9. I love that! I'll try and look for some kissy scenes in my YA but if it's too scant perhaps I'll dig around in other MS's? Oh wait, I might actually be unplugged. If I can find a descent scene i'll plug back in just for that one day 😉 Can't wait to read all the scenes!!! Love the hashtag idea.

  14. My only kissing story is about my six-year-old who calls me over to stand under the “missytoe.”

I could eat him up, he's so precious.

So sad I missed out on participating on the actual day, but I am still going to share my own scene on my blog http://www.thewritewords-lindsey.blogspot.com because this just sounds like so much fun! (besides, I think others are still participating, and the day becomes longer. Maybe we need a whole month devoted to kissing madness!)
