BIG News Changes Things

Call me wishy washy. Flighty. Daft. Whatever… but I’ve decided to finish editing my first book. I know what you are thinking. She needs to decide and stick with a plan. She should move on! First books never sell, so why waste your time? Well, I agree with all those things! But yesterday I received news that changed everything.

I finaled in the Faith, Hope, and Love Chapter’s Touched By Love Contest!

Now, you might be thinking, so why edit now? Well, the big grand prize for the overall winner is a edit by an editor. I don’t expect to be the overall winner…at all! Seriously, it’s not that I am a pessimist, but I am realistic.  On the other hand, I received some great scores by all three judges and I feel like I should at least be prepared. There’s that “What if…” factor.

AND, the best thing is…I will finally be done with it and be able to say I DID IT!

So bear with me while I go back to the drawing board with this book. I may whine a bit in the next couple of weeks, but I will try to keep my Cranky Pants tucked away in the closet.

What a confirmation for you both to keep plugging away at what you're doing. God's gifted you both and he's now reminded you not to let discouragement or other things distract you from his calling on you!

  15. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Sherrinda! I am sooo happy for you. And I'm not at all surprised you finaled. You've worked hard to study craft, have opened yourself to receive feedback on your work, and have edited your story, incorporating the changes others, such as your dad and CPs, have offered. Your hard work is paying off.

And, for the record, some writers do sell first books. I've had some guests at Romance Writers on the Journey who've done just that.

Enjoy the thrill of your final! How cool that you can share it with Krista. I anticipate another celebration over at The Writers Alley.

  16. Yay, for Sherrinda. How wonderful.
Yes, you've got to be ready when the manuscript is requested – and it will be! Have faith, oh humble servant.

We have to follow our hearts when it comes to what we do.

I have to go back to my first novel and edit yet again and it's been finished for a few years.

We always have work. It's what we have to remember as writers.

Go forth and produce. Manuscripts, that is.

    Blessings.

  19. So wonderful, Sherrinda! I had a dream last night that you where on a stand up ride around lawn mower mowing the yard before the snow had even melted away. Must have been an analogy for editing. I tried to take a picture of you to post on my blog, but the camera didn't work, otherwise I'd have the proof – oh, yeah, it was a dream. Well, I hope YOUR dreams come true!
