My Vacation in Colorado

I’ve been on vacation in Colorado. I wanted to let everyone know why I wasn’t blogging or responding to comments, but I’m one of those weird people who don’t want to let burglars know that my house is empty for a week. Maybe I am paranoid, but I’d like to think I was careful.

My parents’ 50th wedding anniversary is this year and what they wanted was a trip to Colorado with the entire family. We all headed to Cuchara, CO (near the Spanish Peaks in SE Colorado) and stayed at the Yellow Pine Ranch in the Lodge. I was so excited to see that it was over 4,000 SF and had beds for almost everyone.

I have two younger sisters who each have two children. There were 17 of us total and we all get along. Amazing, right? We spent the whole week together and still love one another! The great part about this trip was we all did whatever we wanted. Some golfed. Some played tennis. Some hiked. Some fished. Some climbed to the top of a mountain.  And some just liked to take goofy pictures. It was so much fun!

We had a time of blessing for my parents at the end of our trip and each person told what they appreciated about them, what they have taught them, and shared special memories. There was not a dry eye in the lodge…well, at least for the women. We then gathered around them and prayed over them. It was a beautiful time.

This was one of the most relaxing trips I have ever taken. It was perfect, though I admit I was tempted to hole up and write. But since this trip was about family, I spent the whole time enjoying them and having fun. (I did do alot of brainstorming for my next story and it’s gonna be a fun one!)

I’m glad to be back home, but not happy about the 100 degree temperature here in Texas. Now I am just doing laundry, getting back into a routine, and enjoying my last two weeks of summer before I have to go back to work.

I missed you guys!

  2. I go back August 2. Monday I get organized, Tuesday I have a district meeting to attend, and Wednesday starts registration. Then I work 10+ hour days, 6 days a week, trying to get all the kids registered before school starts. My nightmare month. 🙂 When do you go back?

The three girls jumping are the three granddaughters. My daughter is the one in the middle.

  3. What a neat time! And no, I don't think you're crazy about the burglar thing. I tend to be paranoid about that sort of thing too. 🙂

  4. Sherrinda, how great you got to spend such a relaxing time with your family. Fun pictures, too! Isn't Colorado beautiful? I've lived here my whole life and still love it. I think you left Texas temperatures here, though, it's been near the hundreds the last few days. We're going to be at 99 today again. Ugh!

  7. Congratulations to your parents. The place you stayed made me think of a Zane Grey book: Raiders of Spanish Peaks. One of my favorites when I was a teen.

Lovely pictures. You look (and sound) as if you had a wonderful time.

  13. We're in the suburbs of Denver. If we were just a little further west, the elevation would be higher and we'd get more reprieve. Our family went camping last weekend (when it was still warm in Denver) and the temps probably didn't get any higher than 65 degrees. It was even colder overnight. A few thousand feet can make a HUGE difference!

  22. Wonderful pics and great way to share a family time. I feel so old when I look at pics of me as a toddler when your parents and mine traveled to Colorado. Long time ago considering it was the PS era (Pre-Sherrinda).

Enjoy the rest of the summer. School comes way too soon.
