When God Whispers…

The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.  1 Kings 19:11-12

He whispered. God whispered and I heard.

There is something beautiful about the Creator of the heavens and Earth connecting with you. Interacting with you. Giving you affirmation. It is a humbling thing.

I have been plagued with doubts and paralyzed with fear in regards to my writing. I had convinced myself that my manuscript was rubbish. It’s my first. Of course it is the stink of the world. It is riddled with beginner mistakes: passive beyond belief, little description, POV issues. You name it, it’s there. I was so frozen with fear that I quit editing it. I gave up.

And then God whispered.

He allowed me to have the humbling privilege of winning first place in the historical category of the Touch By Love Contest, put on by the Faith, Hope, & Love Chapter of RWA. I admit to being completely blown away. I was just so honored to have finaled. I know that sounds so trite, but it is completely true.

I felt as if God pushed back the hair from my face, leaned in close, and whispered, “I believe in you.”

What greater motivation do I need to put fingers to the keyboard, my behind in the chair, and just write the stories He’s placed in my heart?

Thank you, Father, for your sweet whispers of love. May I be mindful of your whispers in the wind and be willing to step out in faith to do what you have encouraged me to do. I love you so.

  1. Congrats on that win Sherrinda. I know how you feel. I am never so scared as I am when I write. and I am even more terrified when it is all said and done and I must fine the nerve to send that writing out into the wide world. I keep thinking, “I have one book and one me…(not enough, not nearly good enough) BUT I have God. My work is currently sitting with some people who have the power to make my dreams come true. Or do they? I keep reminding myself God has already made a way for me and my book. I get to find out what and where that way is as I follow Him. So I follow. With trembling heart and hands, I follow.

I am glad God shwoed you Himself in the midst of feeling like quitting. It is humbling isn't it 🙂

  4. Tabitha, I'll be praying that your manuscript finds a good home…one that launches you forward in your writing career.

Heather, I crave hearing from God constantly. I think once you have experienced His whispers, you want them all the more.

Jessica, thank you! God IS amazing!!!

Patti, you have such a way with words, my friend. I am thrilled beyond belief to be soulmates with someone as lovely as you. (I liked the image too…it spoke of HIS whispers perfectly.)

Linda, it IS a perfect name for the contest that mirrors my experience with HIM!

Diane, don't you love it when He whispers? Or yells, for that matter? lol

Faith, I don't think any of us sit still long enough to really hear Him. Often it is out of desperation that I take the time to just sit and listen for Him. I think we would all live in His presence more if we did. 😉

Eric, thank you! Your encouragement means a lot!

Katie! Goosebumps, huh? That is a HUGE compliment!!! My daughter gets goosebumps when she hears extraordinary singing, but to have someone get goosebumps regarding my writing…well, thank you!

Jaime, I suppose it is a SHOUT out, isn't it? 🙂 Now don't be popping those buttons…you might pop me in the eye! lol Thanks for the encouragement!

Mary, thank you!! You are sweet! Your encouragement means a lot to me. 🙂

  5. Well this made my day to hear your great news. Im so happy for you – not just for the win, but most of all for the privilege of God's tender mercy for your writing. He cares enough to show you the way you are to go. The intimacy of His whisper is a great blessing. I am in the place you were, so I will be listening for that whisper too.

P.S. If you aren't getting my post updates on your list you will probably have to un-follow and then follow me again. There seems to be a glitch in my blog. Thanks
