Revision Land

I have to say that culling out my google reader afforded me more time to work on my editing this past week. I’ve redone the first part of my contemporary/speculative and am working on a synopsis. I’ve also been daydreaming about a new story, the regency idea I had, and am getting excited about that one.

The extra time has been nice, but I have to admit I have had some withdrawals. Weird, huh? I kept wanting to just waste time. Procrastinate. Do anything other than write or edit. I wonder why that is? Here I am, making time to do something creative, and I am hedging about it.

But I am getting over that weirdness and am getting back into the groove. I am soooo loving it!

Do you find that it is hard to get back into the groove of writing after you’ve been away from it?

    For me, there's the fear of the white page so it's easy to procrastinate. Then just before the project is finished, a new idea pops up. Thereby providing another excuse to procrastinate and work on the next project before finishing the first. I really need a deadline to get things done.

    Sometimes I get so caught up in procrastination that I have to force myself to get back to writing. In the past, I've cut off Twitter and Facebook while writing rough drafts, but I felt so isolated and out of the loop. Now I've learned to balance both…most of the time. 🙂

    I'm so glad you're enjoying the work.

    I get so mad at myself when I see that I'm wasting time, but sometimes I think my brain just needs the down time in order to be productive.

    But maybe that's just me making excuses for being lazy.

    Yes. I find I'm not satisfied with anything I'm writing–especially the beginning–if I've taken a break from it (more than about a week).

    The Lord has entrusted each of us with 24 hours per day and various opportunities to participate in His plans for us. But so often we are tempted to squander our time and energy on our own pursuits without a thought of what our heavenly Father may have in mind for us.
