I Yeild…It’s Time

It is time to take control of my life. After a visit with my doctor, I am embarking on a new journey of creating a healthier me. Yes, I’ve got to lose weight, but it is more than that. I need to get strong, get active, and get healthy–mind, body, and soul.

As I was absorbing the enormity of my task, I read Lisa Jordan’s blog where she talked about joining SparkPeople and the huge help it was to her. I immediately hopped over to SparkPeople and was blown away by the site. It is a huge community of people working their way to good health.

SparkPeople has incredible tools to aid you on the weight loss journey. The site is free and they have a nutritional tracker, an exercise tracker, plus over 200,000 recipes to peruse as you plan meals. They track your weight and count your calories according to the meals you list in the Meal Planner. It also tracks different nutritional values, such as calcium, sodium, fats, fibers, etc… There are also forums and discussion boards, as well as member pages to visit where you can read many inspiring success stories.

I’m not delusional. This site is not a going to be a miracle plan for losing weight. But it looks to be a great tool for those who need some guidance.

What have you found to be the best tool for losing weight and getting healthy?

***Stop by The Writer’s Alley tomorrow where I will interview Kaye Dacus and give away a copy of her new release, The Art of Romance. It is such a good book and you don’t want to miss the chance to get your hands on it!***

  1. Getting healthy is always a GREAT goal! One that will ultimately help our writing as well. And it reminds me that I need to be more active.

  3. Is the SparkPeople siite free to join? I've been stress eating a lot though I was walking a little bit so I think I've maintained. (Too afraid to get on the scale). Best tool that would help me, would be to have my jaw wired shut. (-;

  5. I've been a member of Spark for over two years and it is a wonderful website. The key to weight loss is not a diet, but a lifestyle change to healthy eating and moderate exercise for the rest of your life. It's best to track what you eat in order to get the right amount of calories, nutrients, etc. And I've made some great friends on a Christian book forum as well. Best wishes in getting healthy, Sherrinda!

  6. Sherrinda, getting healthy is a great goal…and I'm right there with you. I had my doc appt last month and now I'm forming a plan of attack. I have a “perfect lil dress” motivation as well (my hubby's unit has a ball in August). Hubby got a Kinect last month and it came with Zumba, and then I got The Biggest Loser for it as well. The more active we are, the less time we have to think about food (I'm an emotional eater).

  7. Yes, I love SparkPeople! I used it last summer/fall to lose the first batch of baby weight, and it was awesome. Of course, it didn't do the work for me…it just told me when I was cheating. 🙂

    The challenge I've found with it now is time. It takes a little bit of time to enter all my food, etc., and with little ones hanging on me, it's been tough to maintain. But with summer coming soon, I need to get back on it and get serious again. I lost about 1-2 pounds per week when I followed their recommendations.

    Good luck, Sherrinda! You can do it! 🙂

  8. Congrats on reaching that decision, Sherrinda. I had the same talk with myself last summer. I've learned a lot about how my body reacts to different types of foods and that for me it's type of food rather than quantity that matters.
    If you have time, you might want to join us over at Healthywriter.com too. I do a post each Saturday on adding more vegetables to create a healthier diet.

    Good luck!

  10. Good for you! Hubby and I have been on a diet since last October. I've lost over 20 pounds and feel much better. I have about 15 more to go. Hang in there. If I can do it so can you. 🙂
