Summer Hours

Cocoon hammock!!!

Summer has officially begun in our house. My son is out of school and tomorrow I begin summer hours. I have to be at work at 7:30 a.m. and stay until 5 p.m. I get half an hour for lunch. The cool thing is I get Fridays off in the summer. Nice, huh?

Summer has a different feel. There is a relaxed attitude that permeates my life during summer. I tend to watch movies more. Watch TV series more. Read more. Act lazy more….gasp…that is really hard to believe.

The problem with that is, I need to write more. With an extra day at home, I need to get motivated to put my fingers to the keyboard and let my story burst forth. I wanted to have this novel finished by the end of the summer, but unless I put my behind in the chair and do it, well, it ain’t gonna happen like I want it to.

How do you get motivated? How do you push yourself to do something that you KNOW you will enjoy doing once you get back in the groove?

  1. I think summer has a more relaxed feel around here, even when we're busy! I force myself to get in the chair, look at the screen and turn my phone on vibrate so I don't hear the social media “dings” to alert me of stuff!

Last week, I took my hard copy to the pool and edited under an umbrella table, praying no little snot splashed water on my baby (not my real kid my ms! LOL)

I'm cheering you on to finish by end of summer! You can do it!

  2. I motivate myself by setting specific goals and then telling the people around me about those goals. For some reason, if someone else knows my goal, I'll work harder to live up to it. 🙂

But yeah, I love the relaxed feel of summer, too. And I'm hoping I can stay focused on my goals while also relishing the laidback-ness of summer. Doable? I hope so!

  3. Yay for having Fridays off!

To motivate myself…I make schedules. Yep, I love schedules and lists and accomplishing things, so I make myself a writing/blogging/cleaning/relaxing (for real) schedule and it helps to get back in the groove. I'm so weird!

  6. I think you really are soooo weird!!!! And I love it! I cannot even imagine making a schedule to relax. I know people who do and it works for them and I think it is GREAT!

    Celebrate the WEIRD, girl!
