Art Journal – Week 4 (Documented Life Project)

The challenge was to add words to the page and the theme for the week was friends. I wanted to do something completely different than what I normally do, so I decided to go more realistic, rather than messy.

I glued underpaper and bookpages to the page and then journaled across the whole thing. I added a light layer of gesso, and then drew a tree. Not sure why, but I did. In going with the friendship theme, I thought I’d add a couple of birds to the tree, using the paisley shape for their bodies. I used distress blue paint for the sky. I used distress green paint and stain for the leaves. The trunk and flowers were done with a black Pitt pen and Prismacolor pencils.

Not my favorite spread, but at least I was brave and tried something way out of my comfort zone.

Have a great day!

  1. Just now finding your blog, Sherrinda — and I am so glad I did. I wish I could create something beautiful like this, but there's no sense in belaboring that point. Instead, I'll just reiterate how much I love this piece, especially the image of the tree. It reminds me of how sheltering true friendships are for us.

  3. I love this page. Reminds me of a children's book illustration. I don't know what like best about it. The colors, the birds, the doodle details, the lettering. Just perfect
