First Line Fridays

First Line FridaysI love First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books and decided to start sharing first lines of the books I’m reading. It’s a fun way to share good books and spread the love of words on the page.

I picked up Love Unexpected by Jody Hedlund at the library this week and am about half-way through. Jody is a lovely and prolific writer who writes great historical romance.

About the book:

All Emma Chambers ever wanted was a home, but when her steamboat sinks just outside Presque Isle, she’s left destitute and with no place to stay.

Love Unexpected_jody hedlundAn unlikely solution arises when the lighthouse keeper arrives in town. He’s just lost his wife and is having a difficult time caring for his child. So a traveling preacher gets the idea that the keeper and Emma might be the answer to each other’s dilemma. After a hasty marriage, she finds herself heading to the lighthouse with this handsome but quiet stranger. Nothing in her aimless life, though, has prepared her for parenting a rambunctious toddler, as well as managing a household.

Emma soon suspects Patrick may be hiding something from her, and then she hears a disturbing rumor about the circumstances surrounding his late wife’s death. It seems as if her wish for a home and family of her own could end up leading her once more into turbulent waters.

First Line

The blast of a gunshot awoke Emma Chambers.

Wow! Talk about starting off with adventure!

  2. “Grief is the most solitary emotion; it makes islands of us all.” This is how Greg Iles begins his gripping story of Mississippi Blood, one of the books of his Natchez Burning trilogy.

  3. Today at my blog, I featured the first line of Beth Revis’ latest release, Give the Dark My Love. Here, though, I will be sharing the first line of my next read, Broken Things by Lauren Oliver.

“Before we were the Monsters of Brickhouse Lane – before everyone from Connecticut to California knew us by that tagline, and blogs ran pictures of our faces, and searching our names led to sites that crashed from all the names led to sites that crashed from all the traffic – we were just girls, and there were only two of us.”

Hope you enjoy the weekend! Happy reading! ❤️📚 😀

Today on my blog, I am sharing the first line from Lynn Austin’s novel Legacy of Mercy. I just started the book today and I am only on chapter two, so I will share the first line from there.

“I don’t know how to answer my son Jakob.”

Makes me want to read on! 😊

Hope you have an excellent day, and a relaxing weekend filled with great reading!

  5. Happy Friday, Sherrinda! I’m sharing from an upcoming read, The Love Letter by Rachel Hauck, over on my blog today. Here are the first lines from the prologue, set during the American Revolution:

“He must finish. He must. Stumbling, he fell to the damp earth of the maple swamp with the click-slap of musket fire ringing through the cold dew, his breath billowing.”

  6. Hi Sherrinda! I love your name, by the way. On my blog, I’m featuring the book I just finished reading, “The Awakening” by Tamara Leigh. Here I will share the first line from the book I’m currently reading, “The Unwanted Suitor” by Michelle Pennington. There is a prologue, but I’ll share the first line from Chapter 1. “Cornelia Greystone glanced at the ormolu clock that graced the wall over her dressing table and her whole body tensed with urgency.” Have a wonderful weekend!

  7. Annaliese! I love your name too! I just purchased The Awakening and can’t wait to read it! I love medievals (I just wrote one that is going to be published in May of 2019) and am so excited to read more of Tamela’s books. The first line of the book you are reading sounds wonderful! Very descriptive…and urgent!!! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
