Cover Reveal for Lord of Her Heart

cover reveal _lohh

Opening up my email and seeing the cover of my debut novel, Lord of Her Heart, has been one of the most exciting aspects of this publication journey. Yes, getting the contract was HUGE, but seeing the cover made it seem real. My book baby got all dressed up and looks amazing! I’m so excited to reveal the cover to you today!

Writing a romance set in the middle ages was such fun. Throwing Jocelyn, a high-born lady disguised as a boy, with Malcolm, a fierce knight looking to make a name for himself, ended up being more fun to write than I originally thought. While they both want the same thing – a sense of home and security – they must deal with their trust issues in order to work together to reach their goals.

Here’s a sneak peek at Lord of Her Heart‘s back cover copy:

Lady Jocelyn Ashburne suspects something is amiss at her family’s castle because her father ceases to write to her. When she overhears a plot to force her into vows—either to the church or a husband—she disguises herself and flees the convent in desperation to discover the truth.

Malcolm Castillon of Berkham is determined to win the next tournament and be granted a manor of his own. After years of proving his worth on the jousting field, he yearns for a life of peace. Rescuing a scrawny lad who turns out to be a beautiful woman is not what he bargained for. Still, he cannot deny that she stirs his heart like no other, in spite
of her conniving ways.

Chaos, deception, and treachery threaten their goals, but both are determined to succeed. Learning to trust each other might be the only way either of them survives.

I gave my newsletter subscribers an early peek yesterday, but here is Lord of Her Heart‘s cover!

I think Elaina Lee and the team at Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas did a fabulous job. I love the way he is holding her, the sword in his hand, the purple-tinged mist and clouds, and the castle in the background. And check out that long name at the bottom of the cover! Somebody pinch me!

Lord of Her Heart is scheduled for release May 14, 2019.  You won’t miss it. I will be sharing more about it as the day draws near.

What do you think of Lord of Her Heart‘s cover?

My 2018 Book Challenge (Failure)

I had grand plans to read 40 books in 2018. Alas, I failed at reaching my goal. BUT…I’m choosing progress over perfection, so I am celebrating the fact I read 25 books during 2018. This was the year I got a publishing contract and spent months editing my manuscript. So, yes, I’m celebrating the books I read!

I keep track of my reading at Goodreads. You can check it out here.

2018 book challenge 12018 book challenge 22018 book challenge 3

Because I didn’t reach my 2018 goal, I decided to lower my expectations for 2019 and read 24 books. I want to read one non-fiction book on the craft of writing each month, as well as one fiction book a month. I’m sure I will surpass my goal, but that is much better than not meeting my goal.

Did you make reading goals for 2019? I’d love to hear!

First Line Fridays

First Line FridaysHere’s another First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books!  It’s a fun way to share good books and spread the love of words on the page.

I picked up An Inconvenient Beauty by Kristi Ann Hunter at the library and am almost through with this lovely book. Kristi is a beautiful writer who has written a delightful regency book. I will definitely be reading more!

About the book:

Griffith, Duke of Riverton, likes order, logic, and control, and he naturally applies this rational approach to his search for a bride. He’s certain Miss Frederica St. Claire is the perfect wife for him, but while Frederica is strangely elusive, he can’t seem to stop rAn Inconvenient Beauty_Kristi Ann Hunterunning into her stunningly beautiful cousin, Miss Isabella Breckenridge.

Isabella should be enjoying her society debut, but with her family in difficult circumstances, her uncle will only help them if she’ll use her beauty to assist him in his political aims. Already uncomfortable with this agreement, the more she comes to know Griffith, the more she wishes to be free of her unfortunate obligation.

Will Griffith and Isabella be able to set aside their pride and face their fears in time to find their own happily-ever-after?

First Line

The line between boy and man was never murkier than when a father died too soon, leaving his son to walk through the foibles of youth while shouldering the responsibilities of adulthood.

Very poignant, don’t you think?

First Line Fridays

First Line FridaysI love First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books and decided to start sharing first lines of the books I’m reading. It’s a fun way to share good books and spread the love of words on the page.

I picked up Love Unexpected by Jody Hedlund at the library this week and am about half-way through. Jody is a lovely and prolific writer who writes great historical romance.

About the book:

All Emma Chambers ever wanted was a home, but when her steamboat sinks just outside Presque Isle, she’s left destitute and with no place to stay.

Love Unexpected_jody hedlundAn unlikely solution arises when the lighthouse keeper arrives in town. He’s just lost his wife and is having a difficult time caring for his child. So a traveling preacher gets the idea that the keeper and Emma might be the answer to each other’s dilemma. After a hasty marriage, she finds herself heading to the lighthouse with this handsome but quiet stranger. Nothing in her aimless life, though, has prepared her for parenting a rambunctious toddler, as well as managing a household.

Emma soon suspects Patrick may be hiding something from her, and then she hears a disturbing rumor about the circumstances surrounding his late wife’s death. It seems as if her wish for a home and family of her own could end up leading her once more into turbulent waters.

First Line

The blast of a gunshot awoke Emma Chambers.

Wow! Talk about starting off with adventure!

Charming the Troublemaker by Pepper Basham

Pepper Basham‘s soon-to-be-released book, Charming the Troublemaker, is going to be a hit with readers. She has such a way of weaving romance, truth, and unique characters into a masterpiece you won’t want to put down.

About the Book:

Rainey Mitchell is doing just fine. She has a great job helping children in need, her family is around her, she is mother to a fabulous little girl, and is getting over the betrayal of her ex-husband. Dr. Alex Murdock is not doing so well, as he is forced to work at a rural university, his life is full of secrets surrounding his family, and he has to start over in a new town. Luckily, Rainey, the daughter of his landlord, is there to get him settled. Rainey just wants to stay away from the new professor, who has the same charm as her ex. Unfortunately, they seem to need each other. Rainey needs his grant-writing ability to save her program, and Alex is terrible at the lecturing at which Rainey excels. The two must work together to fulfill their goals, but will they be able to do it? Rainey’s insecurities and Alex’s obsession with protecting his family could be their undoing.

My Thoughts:

Pepper writes such vivid characters that you can sink your heart into and come away feeling like a part of their family. I loved the extended Mitchel family and the warmth and love they show to each other. They are such a giving family that enfolds a stranger like Alex in.

Can I just say that I love the term “adorkable” for Alex Murdock? Ever the flirt and teaser, he gueards his past and his family and hides behind his humor and adorkability. Rainey is bound and determined to resist Alex’s charm, but he wears her down, little by little, with his sweet care and some fabulous kisses. Whew! Pepper can write a fabulous kissing scene!

I’m looking forward to the next installment in the Mitchell family series!

You can pre-order Charming the Troublemaker HERE. It will be released on November 1, 2017.

The Engagement Plot by Krista Phillips

If you love the Bachelor or Bachelorette, you will love Krista Phillip‘s newest book, The Engagement Plot. Seriously. Krista has a knack for witty banter, funny situations, and some ooo-la-la romance!

About the Book:

Six months ago, William stole Hanna’s heart and shattered it in front of millions of people on a reality TV dating show. And now the big-wig CEO is back on Hanna’s home turf in Minnesota and wants her to forgive him? Fat chance of that. But life is swirling around faster than snow in a blizzard, and despite her objections, teaming up with William seems like the only option to rescue her reputation.

William has never regretted anything more than the day he gave that ill-fated interview for the reality show, The Price of Love. But while he can’t change the past, he’s determined to fix the future. He just needs to convince Hanna to forgive him—and pretend to be engaged with him. Simple, right?

When the media erupts with even worse accusations, teaming up and pretending to be engaged seems to be the only way to salvage their reputations.  Despite the media frenzy that swirls around them, an attraction neither of them can fight off begins to surface. Could this love run deeper than a scandal, or will old wounds tear them apart once and for all?  When all seems lost, it’s only with help from above that Hanna and Will may find their happily-ever-after.

My Thoughts:

I love Hanna and William’s story. Hanna’s hope of a happy-ever-after seemed to be dashed with William’s ill-fated interview, sending her home with her reputation in shreds. But when William shows up asking her to team up with him to save both of their reputations, she reluctantly says yes. Their rocky journey is filled with some funny experiences, warm-hearted relatives, and some incredible romantic tension. And Krista knows how to write a good kiss….yes, she does!

If you love romantic comedy, Krista Phillips is the author for you. You will smile, laugh, tear up, and laugh some more. Yes, I snorted in a scene or too.

You can pre-order Krista’s book HERE. The Engagement Plot releases November 1, 2017.

Review: A Tailor-Made Husband

Review of A Tailor-Made Husband by Winnie Griggs

Backcover Copy:

Tired of pining for handsome sheriff Ward Gleason, seamstress Hazel Andrews plans to head East for a fresh start—until Ward finds an abandoned child. Hazel can’t turn down his request that she watch the little girl while he investigates a spate of crimes. But spending time with Ward is sending local gossips—and Hazel’s heart—into turmoil.
Nothing in Ward’s world is the same since he took charge of orphaned Meg…and that includes his growing feelings for Hazel. A fake engagement will allow them to care for the child together until Hazel moves away and finds someone more worthy. But with little Meg convinced she’s already found her forever family, can Ward and Hazel dare to make her dreams come true, along with their own?

My Thoughts:
I enjoy stories of love developing between friends, and this was no exception. Hazel Andrews, the town seamstress, has loved Ward Gleason, the town sheriff, from afar. But she has waited long enough for Ward to notice her and decides to leave town, making a new life taking over her aunt’s business. But Ward needs her help when he returns from a trip with an abandoned little girl named Meg, so how can she say no?

I enjoyed the town and friendship between Hazel and Ward. They had an easy relationship, which made for conflict in and of itself. Hazel is a strong woman who knows what she wants and doesn’t mind standing her ground to get what she wants, even if it means walking away. I love that about her – tough love! Throw in a fake engagement and a town mystery and you have a fun story!

This was a sweet story with some twists and turns that will entertain all those who love a good romance.
